Boiler servicing and guarantees: what Sussex homeowners need to know

A long boiler guarantee is reassuring, but I want our customers to understand what keeps that cover in place and what it actually covers. The paperwork, annual servicing and condition of the heating system all matter.
Does my boiler need servicing every year?
Follow the servicing schedule in your boiler's instructions and the terms of its guarantee or warranty. Worcester Bosch requires annual servicing by a competent, officially certified engineer, with the service recorded and available for inspection. Other manufacturers have their own conditions, so check the terms for your exact appliance.
Keep the installation documents, guarantee confirmation and service records together. A reminder is helpful, but make sure the appointment is booked and the service record completed.
Is servicing included in the guarantee?
Do not assume it is. Worcester Bosch's manufacturer's guarantee covers qualifying product faults under its terms; annual servicing is a separate maintenance cost unless your installer or service plan expressly includes it. Ask what is included before agreeing to any cover.
Does the boiler guarantee cover the whole heating system?
No. A boiler and its wider heating system are not the same thing. An external pump, radiator, pipework or third-party control may have separate cover, or no remaining cover. Worcester's terms exclude external system components and damage arising from factors such as system water quality, scale and sludge.
This is one reason we look beyond the boiler when we survey a replacement. We want you to understand which components are being replaced, which are being retained and which organisation provides each part of your cover.
What if my service is overdue?
Contact your installer or manufacturer promptly, explain the situation and arrange the service. Ask the manufacturer to confirm how its terms apply to your appliance. Do not assume there is a grace period or that old advice about delayed servicing still applies.
This article replaces our temporary COVID-era update. The servicing allowances described in that old update related to that period and should not be relied on today.
A service and a breakdown visit do different jobs
If the boiler is already losing pressure, cutting out or failing to heat your home properly, tell us when you book. An annual service checks and maintains the appliance in accordance with its requirements; diagnosing and repairing an existing fault may need additional work.
